Arriving in Galway - 6/19

After a bit of traffic, we finally made it to our B&B in Galway - Consilio B&B.  Our hostess was awaiting, and she showed us our rooms and asked what we wanted to for breakfast, and chatted us up a bit about where we were from and our plans.  I had picked out a restaurant from several of the guidebooks, figuring it would be easiest to not have to wander.

Unfortunately after our walk to the Malt House, we found it closed, not sure if it was closed because it was Sunday or what.  So we decided to wander, perusing the menus and finally came upon a place called Druid Lane.  It was small, with only one waitress/bartender, but the food sounded good, and she was actually fairly quick about things.  Dennis and I ordered Leek & potato soup, which interestingly wasnt a cream base, but was very good.  Eric got the Coconut Curry Mussel Soup, and my dad ordered the fish cakes.  The soups were our favorites, and the bread was very good!  For entrees, Dennis ordered the Chicken Curry, Dad the Seafood Bake, I ordered the Mussels Taglietteli, and Eric got the Pork Belly Special.

The food was definitely a rich french style food, with creamy sauces and thick flavors.  While not the best food we have ever had, not bad for stumbling on it in the streets of Galway.

On the way back, we decided to stop at a pub to grab a drink or two.  I have been finding that a lot of places only serve beer & wine, and a lot of the nicer restaurants don't serve a good variety of beer.  So I held off on the drinks with dinner to grab a couple after.  We stopped in a hotel bar on the way back, figuring they were the most likely to have drinks more my style.  However, when we went to order the second round, we were told that they only serve people staying in the hotel after 11pm.  Some of these odd rules are getting kind of annoying.  At 55 we found out you are not allowed to take "doggy bags" or :"leftovers" home with you after a meal.  We are finding a lot of places that dont serve liquor, and very very few that serve mixed drinks... and then this odd hotel rule.  Definitely a different culture I guess!

Anyways, our walk home was gorgeous.  Between the lit up streets of galway and the sun just barely setting (by the way both of these are taken near 11pm!!), it definitely added the Irish enchantment.
