Dingle 6/21

Small little side trip today as we are staying in Tralee again.  We decided to drive out on the Dingle Peninsula and explore some of the town as well. We started by taking the southern route, then headed back through Connor Pass.

One of the guidebooks suggested that the 5km stretch of sand beech in Inch was worth stopping at, and boy was it!  There were some kayakers out braving the crazy waves, and oddly enough you can drive right on this beach!  The water wasnt as cold as I was expecting from all the wind.

Then we headed to Dingle to check out the town.  As it was raining a bit, my dad & Dennis decided to check out the aquarium.  I decided I didnt really feel like paying 13 euros to see the same fish and animals that were likely right in Boston, so Eric & I went to scout the town and check out the sites.

The rain was managable for a while, but as we headed up and over to a road we thought would take us back to the aquarium, the rain picked up until it was blowing straight at us and was incredibly powerful.  There were no stores or corners to duck into, as we were in the middle of a housing development, so we just went as fast as we could for the aquarium.
This is Eric when we finally made it to the aquarium, our pants stuck to our legs and soaked to the bone!!  Ahh such is the Irish weather!  The rain let up a little and we headed for a pub down the street where we got stews and cottage pie, and even more importantly, Baily's coffee!!

After lunch the rain had let up, and we went to go see the chapel and the stained glass windows.  We checked out the church first.

Then we headed into the St. Francis old nunnery that had the Clark Stained glass windows.  The windows were astounding in their detail, I was surprised that they weren't in the guidebook!  Unfortunately, no pictures allowed, maybe I will upload a photo of the brochure later!  But we did also see a mural in progress, that a local woman was painting of the last supper, but all of the scenery was of Dingle, the faces are all people from Dingle, and the windows are the Clark Windows.

A quick trip through Dingle with a stop for some amazing ice cream (I got a scoop of sea salt and a scoop of Bailys!), and a quick walk down the peer and we were headed out

And I will have to post Connor pass later... time to head out for the Ring of Kerry!
